Porina aenea (Wallr.) Zahlbr.
     
  Cat. Lich. Univ. 1: 363 (1922); Verrucaria aenea Wallr., Fl. Crypt. Germ. 3: 299 (1831). T: Europe; holo: n.v.  
     
  Thallus epiphloeodal, continuous, pale to medium grey-green or patchily orange-brown, matt, ±smooth, to 40 µm thick, ecorticate; prothallus not apparent. Algae Trentepohlia; cells 10–20 × 8–16 µm. Perithecia ±superficial, convex to hemispherical, 0.16–0.25 mm diam., dull black; apex rounded or slightly flattened; ostiole inconspicuous or a medium grey spot. Involucrellum dull black, arching away from the exciple or contiguous with and almost enclosing the exciple, not enclosing algae, greenish black in thin section. Exciple 10–15 µm thick, greenish black. Centrum 0.12–0.2 mm wide. Asci ±cylindroclavate to narrowly obclavate, 60–85 × 8–10 µm. Ascospores oblong-fusiform to narrowly cylindrical, 3-septate, 16–23 × 3–5 µm; perispore absent or up to 2 µm thick. Pycnidia not seen.
     
  Occurs in southern Tas., on rotting bases of the tall sedge Gahnia grandis in the understorey of Eucalyptus-dominated wet forest. A common corticolous species in most parts of Europe; also in Macaronesia and North America.
