Thallus minutely squamulose. Squamules rounded, elongate or sparingly branched, crowded to imbricate, prostrate to erect, 0.1–0.8 mm long, (0.05–) 0.2–0.5 mm wide, pale to medium grey-brown or olive-green, dark green when wet. Perithecia semi-immersed to superficial, black, subovate, 0.25–0.4 (–0.5) mm diam., usually located between squamules; apex plane to slightly convex; surface minutely wrinkled to longitudinally plicate especially near apex. Centrum 0.2–0.4 mm wide. Periphyses simple to sparingly branched, 30–60 × 1–2.5 µm. Asci (1 or) 2-spored, clavate, 150–220 × 35–55 µm. Ascospores broadly to elongate-ellipsoidal, 65–135 × 30–50 µm, colourless to pale brown (darkening with age). | ||
Known from two localities in south-eastern N.S.W. where it grows on soil and calcicolous bryophytes. Also in North America, Europe, Macaronesia, Japan, New Guinea and Lord Howe Is. | ||
