Squamae appressed to ascending, contiguous to imbricate, concave to plane, elongate, lobate, radiating at the thallus margin, pale grey-brown to pale greenish brown, 0.35–0.65 mm wide, 0.1–0.15 mm thick, with a grey-black lower cortex, anchored by concolorous rhizohyphae. Perithecia immersed, 0.2–0.4 mm diam.; apex rounded, often overgrown by the thallus; ostiole depressed. Exciple 20–25 µm thick at the base and sides, 25–40 µm thick near the apex, with a ±hyaline inner layer and a dark brown outer layer. Centrum 0.15–0.32 mm wide. Periphyses 25–40 µm long. Asci 2-spored, 90–120 × 20–27 µm. Ascospores broadly to elongate-ellipsoidal to subcylindrical, 36–51 × 16–24 µm, colourless to pale brown. | ||
Occurs in south-eastern Qld and in Christmas Is. Also known from siliceous rocks, but more commonly from soil and bryophytes in central and western Europe and south-western U.S.A. | ||
