Squamae appressed, solitary or contiguous, occasionally imbricate, rounded to irregular, becoming deeply lobate, plane to concave, not rimose, matt, medium to dark grey-brown, 2–10 mm wide, 0.25–0.4 mm thick; margin concolorous, usually slightly revolute; undersurface brown-black; rhizines brown to black, richly branched, 0.1–0.2 mm thick. Perithecia immersed, 5–25 per squama; apex concave to slightly convex, dark brown to black, 0.2–0.3 mm diam.; ostiole inconspicuous or depressed. Centrum 0.3–0.4 mm wide. Exciple 25–40 µm thick, brown-black. Periphyses 50–80 µm long. Asci 1-spored, 98–155 × 50–69 µm. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal to elongate-ellipsoidal or obovate, 82–129 × 44–60 µm, medium to dark brown. | ||
