  Squamae closely appressed, contiguous to imbricate, deeply lobate, pale to dark grey-brown, 2–8 mm wide, 0.1–0.5 mm thick, with a brown-black (30–) 60–100 (–150) µm thick basal layer, attached by black rhizines 0.1–0.2 (–0.25) mm thick; margins becoming deflexed. Perithecia immersed, 5–20 per squama; apex plane to concave, concolorous with to slightly darker than the thallus, 0.1–0.2 mm diam.; ostiole inconspicuous to slightly depressed. Exciple 25–35 µm thick, brown-black. Centrum 0.3–0.4 mm wide. Periphyses 35–55 µm long. Asci 2-spored, 109–132 × 25–30 µm. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal to elongate-ellipsoidal, 37–68 × 17–28 µm, pale to medium brown.
     
  Known only from the type locality in the mid-north of S.A.
