Thallus epilithic, rimose to areolate, matt, ±smooth to minutely uneven, dark greenish brown to brown-black, 80–140 µm thick, ecorticate; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia semi-immersed to almost completely immersed in prominent thalline verrucae, 0.24–0.5 mm diam.; apex rounded to slightly concave. Involucrellum brown-black, apical to dimidiate. Exciple c. 20 µm thick, hyaline to brown. Centrum 0.18–0.3 mm wide. Periphyses 30–40 µm long. Hymenial algae globose-cuboid, 2–3 (–4) µm wide. Asci 2-spored, 70–90 × 17–25 µm. Ascospores 32–50 × 14–20 µm, medium to dark brown. | ||
Occurs in central and eastern Tas., where it inhabits aquatic and semi-aquatic siliceous rocks. Rather common in cool-temperate to Arctic-alpine regions of the Northern Hemisphere; also in New Zealand. | ||
