| Thallus endolithic, continuous, white, off-white or pale grey (sometimes pale greenish in shade). Algae globose, 6–12 µm diam. Prothallus a thin blackish line or not apparent; basal layer absent; thalli sometimes delimited by a shallow groove. Perithecia almost completely immersed in the substratum, 0.18–0.35 mm diam., frequently leaving minute pits after decay. Involucrellum apical, plane to slightly convex, black, lid-like and often becoming detached from post-mature perithecia, usually with 3–6 fissures radiating from the ostiole. Exciple 15–25 µm thick, hyaline to pale brown at the base and sides, often darker towards the apex. Centrum 0.2–0.4 mm wide. Periphyses 20–40 × 1–2 µm. Asci 50–65 × 15–25 µm. Ascospores narrowly ellipsoidal or short-fusiform, 15–21 × 6–10 µm. |  |

| Occurs on limestone in south-western W.A., southern S.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas. A common calcicolous species in temperate parts of the Northern Hemisphere; also in New Zealand. | ||
