Born Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England on 2 Oct. 1860; emigrated to Australia 1864; married Edith Emma Ingamells at Newtown, Geelong, Vic. on 16 Apr. 1884; died Gosford, N.S.W. on 19 Jan. 1931.
School teacher at Geelong, Vic. from 1875; head teacher at Warrabine 1880, later at Niranda East & Geringhap, then assistant at Geelong Flinders School. Transferred to Dept of Agriculture Feb. 1898; in July 1906 appointed Principal, Viticultural Station at Rutherglen; resigned 1920. Collected in Vic. around Geelong, You Yangs c. 1889; on Barwon & Leake Rivers 1895. Specimens at E, MEL. Wrote several papers for Geelong Naturalist, 1895–97; also report on phylloxera in Vic.
