Born Hampstead, England, 1866; died London?, England, 25 May 1924.
Geological assistant, palaeontologist at British Museum (Natural History). On expedition to Christmas Is., arrived 29 July 1897 departed May 1898, then spent a month at Cocos (Keeling) Is. Collections included cryptogams. Wrote A Monograph of Christmas Island etc. (1900); botany pp 171-200, pi. xviii, figs 1-9. Visited Christmas Is. again briefly in 1908 [Desmond gives 1909]. Specimens & archives (incl. 4 notebooks) at BM E K. Also collected fish. Wrote many palaeontological papers.
Commemorated in Anonychia, Geaster, Panicum, plus fauna.
