The second of twelve children, to William Chaulk (later Baudinet) (c.1799- 1865), and Augusta Louisa née Baudinet (1805-1873). The family migrated to WA in 1829, and then to Tas. in 1831. Lucy's father was the first lighthouse keeper on Bruny Island, 1838-1847, and then on Deal Island, 1848-1865. After her parents died, Lucy lived with siblings, often with brother Charles Chaulk Baudinet (1832-1916) who was the lighthouse keeper on Swan Island, 1867-1891.
Lucy collected MEL specimens (as 'Miss Baudinet') on Swan Island, 1869, and at Cape Portland and Clarke Island, 1883- 1885. Jacob Agardh identified Lucy's algal specimens for Mueller. There are also 'Miss Baudinet' specimens at NSW.
She never married and died aged 75 in Hobart at the Newtown Charitable Institution of senilis.
