Born at Subiaco, W.A., on 4 February 1942.
After
graduation, Eleanor Bennett commenced her working career at the Western Australian Herbarium (1965-70) when it was still part of the Department of Agriculture. She collected eucalypts in the Perth to Shark Bay
area, and has published on the genus Hybanthus in the
journal Nuytsia.
Her working years included lecturing to horticulture students, assisting with the writing of the Flora of the Perth Region, research, plant identification, display botanist at Kings Park and Botanic Garden, plant surveys including general botanical surveys, specific searches for threatened flora and weed surveys. She is the author of two books: Bushland Plants of Kings Park, Western Australia and Common and aboriginal names of Western Australian plant species. Bennett was also one of the authors of Flora of the Perth region.
