Born Skane, Sweden, 12 Aug. 1837; died Lund, Sweden, 28 June 1917

Botanist, explorer. Lecturer/professor of botany in Uppsala, then Lund.

Studied mosses, liverworts, algae.

Collected freshwater algae, fungi, in Australia & N.Z. 1874—75, e.g. Dividing Ra. near Melbourne.

Commemorated in Gomphonema.
