Born Needham Market, Suffolk, England, 1 Mar.1844; died Melbourne, Vic, 10 June 1928.
Businessman, naturalist. Arrived Melbourne, Vic, Feb. 1850.
Foundation member of Field Nats' Club of Vic Collected (including fungi) with C.French on upper Murray R., Vic, 1884, Berwick1885, Ballarat 1890, Bacchus Marsh.
Specimens at MEL.
Also collected beetles (at Museum Victoria). Wrote many papers. Grew Austral, plants at East Kew,Melbourne. Commemorated in 3 beetles e.g. Morphnos.
