Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria |
Beyer was born on 13 November, probably in 1865, and whilst the date of his death is not known, he worked until the early 1920s.
He was appointed an herbarium assistant at the Sydney Technological Museum (later the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, now the Powerhouse Museum) in 1890 and in 1909 was promoted to clerk, a position which he still held at 31 December 1921 according to New South Wales Public Service Board records. In the edition of their A Research on the Eucalypts (1920) Baker and Smith thank him in their acknowledgments for ‘much clerical assistance’ and in the second edition (1920) he is ‘thanked for the indexing’.
Honoured by the name Eucalyptus beyeri R. T. Bak. (1917).
