Welsh Congregational minister and author.
Came to Tasmania in 1891, serving on the Tasman Peninsular. Brief appointment at Bunbury, WA c.1897; returned to Tasmania at Dunalley as semi-invalid. Wrote poetry, a novel, and an account of Tasmanians in the Transvaal War.
Plants collected mainly in Tasman Peninsular area. FLS 1893. [Mercury; West Australian]

Illinois -[AustLit public database] certainly styles himself Dr from about 1903, also on headstone of his grave and on title page of his book Tasmanians in the Transvaal War 1905 which also shows him as FRGS, FGS; assistant botanist to govt of Tasmania,, described as such in a news item about a lecture to be given to Mueller Botanical Society in Perth, 1898; dates of FRGS? FGS?]

Clergyman. Collected in Tasmania at Port Arthur & Port Davey, 1892-93, also mosses at Mt Zeehan, 1894, fossil plants from Dunally; in NSW at Port Jackson, Blue Mountains, 1893, 1898. One from Swansea, 1894, could be either NSW or Tas.

Commemorated in Helichrysum, Prasophyllum, Pecopteris, Thinnfeldia (fossils).
