Born at Saltcoats, Ayrshire, Scotland, 4 February 1943.
His degree is in geology at the University of Adelaide, S.A. In the mid-1980s he was a geologist with the Department of Mines and Energy of S.A. He has published several papers on geological subjects and one associated with eucalypts was Ambrose, G.J. Callen, A.A., Flint, A.B. and Lange, A.T. (1979), Eucalyptus fruits in stratigraphic context in Australia. This was in Nature 280:387-9.
He belongs to several societies and organisations connected with his interests - Geol. Soc. of Aust., Soc. of Economic Palaeontologists and Mineralogists, Inter. Assocn. of Sedimentologists and the Inter. Clay Mineral Society.
