Arrived Albany, WA, Sept. 1892; travelled to Goldfields via Perth. Prospected on Hampton Plains, then at Gnarlbine; worked at Bayley's Reward mine; explored locally, e.g. to Siberia (Nov. 1893), Queen Victoria Spring, Mt Shenton & Mt Margaret (Apr.-June 1894), Kurnalpi, Mt Monger (Nov.-Dec. 1894), striking gold at L. Darlot (Feb. 1895).
Visited England Oct. 1895; returned. to WA. April 1896. On 9 July 1896 departed Coolgardie for the Kimberley, via Empress Spring (11-15 August), Alfred and Manie Range. (1 Sept.), Helena Spring (5-10 Oct.), Southesk Tablelands (c. 14-21 October), to Halls Creek (arrived 4 Dec, departed c. 22 March 1897), returning via Sturt Ck, Mt Webb (11 May), Davenport Hills (18 May), L. Breaden (10 June), Woodhouse Lagoon (17 June), Lake Wells (2 July), Lake Darlot, arriving Coogardie mid August.
Departed. for Britain 3 November 1897; to Nigeria December 1899.
Collected some specimens, now at K.
Commemorated in Dicrastylis carnegiei Hemsl., now a synonym of Dicrastylis doranii; and several place names, e.g. Lake Carnegie.
