Was a Research Assistant to Mike Crisp at ANU 1995-1997 during which time he produced monographic descriptions of all Daviesia species (Fabaceae) for the Flora of Australia project.
Did a Ph.D. in plant systematics at ANU 1997-2001.
Was a Post-doctoral Researcher at Virginia Commonwealth University at Richmond, Virginia, USA, undertaking systematic investigations in Apiales using molecular and morphological techniques and beginning collaborative investigations into relationships within the family Pittosporaceae.
Appointed Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, from 2003-2009.
Was Botanist, Plant Health Surveillance, Australian Government Department of Agriculture in Darwin from May 2013 - Sep 2015.
Was Assistant Director - Botany, Molecular Diagnostics & Surveillance from Jun 2017 - Mar 2020.
In 2022 was Research and Development Manager at 'Hort Innovation', a not-for-profit, grower-owned research and development corporation for Australia's $14.4 billion horticulture industry.
