. . . Mr R Doggrell of the Forestry Department, leaves for Canbera tomorow (Thusday ).
He is at present undergoing
a course of study and training to secure a BSc degree in forestry. He has spent two years in the Queensland
University, and in pursuance of his training joined a survey camp in Western Queensland, and later came north to
study conditions here.
He has been assisting in the Atherton office since Christmas and will spend two years in
the Canberra Forestry School.
For some time he has been experimenting under the supervision of he Deputy
Forester, Mr JR Dawson (Aherton) on black walnut, with a view, to preventing the ravages of the borer beetle on
that timber. The experiments were conducted in the wet weather and in all probability will be concluded in April
or May. These investigations have been made following on complaints from purchasens of walnut logs in USA.
The forestry is carrying on valuable work in this direction and the Atherton officers are anything but idle in the
pursuance of their duties. . . .

Appeal for forest job
Reginald Henry Doggrell, a district forester, yesterday appealed against
the appointment of Stanley Gray Jennings as officer-in-charge of the State
Forest Products Research Branch.
Doggrell claimed before the Public Service Appeal Board in Brisbane that he
had seniority and equal efficiency.
He told the board he had gained a Diploma in Forrestry at Canberra University in 1931.
While district officer at Yarraman, Brisbane Valley, he had designed and made a
tool for pruning plantation lines, and developed a manually-operated hoist for
fire-watching towers.
Highest marks
In evidence, Doggrell said he had graduated from the Canberra University diploma course in 1931 with the
highest marks in Australia for the year.
In 1947 he was appointed district forestry officer at Gympie.
The hearing was adjourned until 10 a.m. to-day. Mr. E. M. J. C. Williamson appeared for Doggrell, and Mr. S.
Dodds tor the Public Service Commissioner.
He lost the appeal.
