In his own words:
"Have lived on the family property ‘Canningalla’ just out of Dungog all my life. Have always had an interest in natural history in general - both fauna and flora. My interest in Orchids was inspired by visits to Canningalla by persons such as Steve Clements and Eric Gordon in the late 1950’s and 1960’s. Up until the 1990’s my interest in orchids was purely as a hobby. It is now much more than that! I am involved in the preparation of Fauna and Flora Assessments for Development Applications to Local Government Councils; the preparation of Flora components of Environmental Impact Statements; Environmental surveys for New South Wales National Parks on the Rare and Threatened Plants of the Barrington Tops Alpine Plateau area and as part of these surveys, which include many species of Orchids, research and collecting for David Jones and staff at the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research, and this latter work has been made possible by the generosity of the Australian Orchid Foundation.
It is always very exciting and rewarding to find out that my efforts have resulted in something of scientific value to be discovered; whether it be an extension of the flowering period; an extension of the known distribution of the species or maybe even a completely new, un-named species. It would be wonderful to be honoured to have a new species named after me."
