Born at Christchurch, New Zealand, 3 November
1961;
He attended Degilbo State Primary School, Biggenden and Gayndah State Secondary Schools.
He obtained BSc [1983], MSc [1990] and Doctor of Science - Botany/Plant Biology [2004] from The University of Queensland.
Paul has worked at the Queensland Herbarium since 1991. He is employed as a vascular plant taxonomist and has been the editor of the herbarium journal Austrobaileya since 2005.
Major research interests and other roles:
Plant systematics and conservation biology.
Systematics and taxonomy of Australian Rutaceae (especially Zieria), cycads (Cycas, Macrozamia), Argophyllaceae (Argophyllum), Lamiaceae (Plectranthus), Rubiaceae (Psydrax, Everistia), Euphorbiaceae (mainly rainforest genera), Apocynaceae (Marsdenia, Tylophora etc.)
Threatened plant survey (especially rainforests, mountains).
Threatened plant translocation advice (especially cycads).
