Born in Fremantle, WA, 1833, died in Cottesloe, WA, 26 April 1903,
Born, one of at least seven children, to Capt. Daniel Scott (c.1800-1865), Harbour Master at Fremantle, WA, and Frances née Davis (c.1806-1865). In 1854, Mary married William Gale (c.1828-1865), Collector of Customs at Fremantle, and they had six sons. The family moved to Geraldton around 1858 to establish a general store, Messrs Scott & Gale. Mary remained in Geraldton after the sudden deaths, in 1865, of her husband, two sons, father, mother and brother.
She collected (numbered) MEL specimens (algae), at Champion Bay, 1880-1881, and upper Murchison River, 1881–1882.
Her son Charles Frederick Gale also collected MEL specimens.
In 1903, Mary died in Cottesloe at the age of 70.
