C.H. ("Cliff") Gittins was an engineer from Epping in Sydney, who visited many out-of-the-way regions of Australia in the 1960s and 1970s and carefully and meticulously collected many specimens for the National Herbarium of New South Wales (NSW) and other institutions.
His personal herbarium collection was donated to the Australian National Herbarium (CANB) in 1977 and he moved up to north Qld after he retired. He was an enthusiastic collector and photographer of Queensland plants. He lived in Kuranda and then moved to a nursing home in Atherton where he died in 1995.
