He had a keen interest in orchids and was a regular visitor to North Queensland in particular the Mt Fox area west of Ingham, later buying a property there.
He area collected orchids, sending specimens to Nicholls in Melbourne who described six new species from his collections between 1934 and 1941. These were: Bulbophyllum cilioglossum, Dendrobium aurantiaco-purpureum. D. tetragonum var. tomentosum. D. variable, Drymoanthus minutus and Phreatia crassiuscula. All were from Mt Fox, except for Phreatia crassiuscula which from Mt. Bartle Frere. Only the last two names on the list remain was valid today.
