Laurie Haegi did a batchelor of Science at Adelaide University 1970-73.
He undertook a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in Systematic and Evolutionary Biology at Flinders University of South Australia, 1976-1983.
He was employed by the State Herbarium of South Australia in the 1970s and later became a Deputy Director the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.
He was a major contributor to the first published volume of the Flora of Australia in 1981, Volume 29, Solanaceae.
His major interests include:
- Hakea (Proteaceae, with Robyn and Bill Barker)
- various genera of Solanaceae with Australian representatives (especially Anthocercideae)
- various genera of Compositae with Australian representatives.
- the flora of the North Flinders Ranges.
He was Regional Conservator, Adelaide Region for the SA Government,
Jan 2003 - Dec 2010.
He became an Honorary Research Associate, at the State Herbarium of South Australia since 2012.
