Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria |
Born at Pomborneit, Vic., in 1874 and died at Albany, W.A., in 1935.
He spent part of his working life with Messrs Brown and Dureau and, with both K. F. Dureau and a son, he travelled in the wheatbelt areas of Western Australia and as far north as Wiluna, collecting eucalypt specimens for identification and also determining whether any of them would produce an oil that could be substituted for the imported Californian Pine Oil used in the flotation process of gold production. Unfortunately, the search for a suitable oil was not successful. Amongst the eucalypt specimens collected on these trips was material which was later to become the type of Eucalyptus stoatei.
