In 1986, Hughes was the engraver for the plate of Sydney Parkinson's 1770 drawing of Banksia ericifolia in Banks' Florilegium, printed in colour for the first time by Alecto Historical Editions between 1980 and 1990 from the original eighteenth-century copperplates. (The lost original engraving was by Thomas Scratchley and Daniel MacKenzie.)
