Born at Wollongong, N.S.W., on 31 January 1937.
His academic qualifications were obtained at Canberra, Sydney and Yale (1963). He joined the staff of the Forestry Commission of New South Wales in 1960 and has held positions in several parts of the State.
He collected the type material of Eucalyptus stenostoma during an air-photo resource survey on parts of the parishes of Jilliga and Belowra, on the south coast of New South Wales.
