Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria |
Born and lived at Nariong (Can't find this place, the nearby settlements of Koetong and Nariel Ck suggest it is a corrupted hybrid), upper Murray area.
He developed an early interest in natural history and collected Grevillea jephcottii at age 14. He led Charles French Jnr on an expedition to Pine Mtn and environs in 1886. He and his father were the first to collect plants of Pine Mtn. Never schooled, grew up in a tent on the banks of the Murray. Contributed around 290 specimens to MEL between 1877 and 1887. Almost certainly a cohort of Findlay. He has been described as one of Australia’s finest lyric poets. No collections after 1890s, probably as Mueller was by then in decline. Grevillea jephcottii was named by Jim Willis in 1967.
