Kirton, Frederick Arthur (c. 1862–1911)
Baptised 24 August 1862 in Branston, Lincolnshire, England (parents William and Sarah Jane); died in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney on 15 October 1911. Buried in Woronora Memorial Park, Sutherland, New South Wales (with his son of the same name).
The date of F.A.Kirton's arrival in Australia is not known but in 1888 and 1889 he was mentioned as working as a photographer in Melbourne and in regional Victoria (including Seymour and Euroa). From 1903 to 1911, he was listed as a resident of Hurstville, Sydney. During this period it appears he worked as a photographer for F.Lassetter's "Australian Field" monthly newspaper and as a chemist. He is credited for a range of photographs of eucalypts in Joseph Maiden’s Forest Flora of New South Wales.
