London botanical artist Loddiges was principal illustrator for the series, The Botanical Cabinet (1817-1833), published by his father, Conrad Loddiges, a Dutch horticulturalist who ran a renowned nursery in Hackney, England. After his father's death, George continued producing the publication, which featured coloured engravings of many exotic species of trees, shrubs, ferns, palms and orchids newly available for European gardens.
