Born in Melbourne, Vic., on 2 November 1909.
He was a forester with the Forestry Commission of New South Wales (1932-72), at first in country areas but for many years at the Head Office in Sydney where he was particularly concerned with fire protection. When he retired he was Chief of Division. He wrote on fire protection, notably the two books Bush Fire Control in Australia (1962) and, with A. G. McArthur, Bush Fires in Australia.
He was one of the joint collectors of the type of Eucalyptus cameronii Blakely & McKie (1934)
