J. H. Maiden (1909) in his Record of Queensland Botanists refers to W. Alexander McPherson, who was active in the period c. 1877-97, but he was mainly concerned with economic plants (he helped with the foundation of the Museum of Economic Botany and also appears to have collected for the Queensland Acclimatisation Society). He was connected with Exhibitions held in Sydney (1879), Melbourne (1881, 1888) and the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London (1886).
