Born, one of fifteen children, to James Goodall Francis (1819-1884) a former Premier of Victoria, and Mary Grant née Ogilvie. In 1874, Annie married a solicitor and politician, Frank Madden (1847-1921), and they had seven children.
Annie collected a MEL specimen at Cobden, 1893, and another at an unknown locality.
Her husband also collected MEL specimens.
Annie became 'Lady Madden' after her husband was knighted in 1911.
She died in South Yarra in 1924 aged 79.
