Mary Maiden was the daughter of J.H. Maiden, Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney from 1896-1924. She specialised in flower painting and was taught lithography by Margaret Flockton. Her work was published in a series, Illustration of New South Wales Plants, by J.H. Maiden, published in three parts from 1907-1911.
