Born in Kalgoorlie, W.A., on 4 February 1913 and graduated from the University of Western Australia.
His professional career was spent in geology as he successively occupied the positions of Senior Geologist, Geological Survey of Western Australia (1935-47), Supervising Geologist, Bureau of Mineral Resources, Commonwealth of Australia (1948-54) and Exploration Manager of Rio Tinto (Aust.) Pty Ltd (1954-59) and of Consolidated Goldfields (Aust.) Ltd (1961-70). Subsequently he became a consulting geologist living in Sydney. He conducted or supervised geological survey explorations in many parts of Australia, but particularly in Western Australia. His writings, other than private company reports, are in several bulletins of the Geological Survey of Western Australia and in reports of the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Canberra.
