David graduated with a B.Sc. in Ecology, Evolution and Systematics from UNSW with first Class Honours in conjunction with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney.
In the early 2000s he worked for the NT Government Dept of Primary Industry, coordinating the Horticultural Division for Central Australia.
In 2008-09 he was attached to the Alice Springs Herbarium assisting in the development of an interactive web based flora key for the MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs.
In the late 2010s he was Principal Ecologist with NGH Environmental and worked primarily on assessing the impacts of developments on threatened species and communities and providing guidance on how to avoid or minimise these impacts.
He specialised in flora and fauna assessment and led numerous surveys within several biogeographic areas of NSW including the south-east coast, southern and northern tablelands, western slopes, alpine areas and the north-western plains.
He was principal author of one paper on Elaeocarpaceae.
