Born 28 May 1870 in Australia, died 6 July 1921, 'late of Burnley'.
His parents were Donald Munro McLennan and Mary Beaton.
McLennan was of Scottish ancestry.
He was a
gymnast in his early years and was described as
a large man although only 5 foot 8 inches (173 cm).
He began his teaching career with the
Victorian Department of Education. In
1907 he was appointed District Inspector of
Schools and in 1911 the first Principal of the
Warragul Agricultural High School.
Before coming to Burnley
JP wrote a booklet on
agricultural experiments
and co-authored a text
on Australian agriculture
with J. H. Refshauge.
He was appointed as Principal at Burnley School of Horticulture at
the age of 41 years with
excellent credentials as
an author, agricultural
inspector, teacher, and
former Principal of an
Agricultural High School.
He was Burnely Principal from 1909 to 1916, before transferring to the Department of Agriculture as Govenment Pomologist and Seed Tester.
