Born in 1935 in Footscray, VIC,
Developed an affinity with Australian Plants through the basalt plains and Maribyrnong River near his home. Entering horticulture in 1969, he gained a certificate at Burnley College, taking over Austraflora Nursery in 1972, and was later joined by his wife, Sue Forrester (b. 1945), a horticulturist and a contributor and assistant in much of his work.
Bill Molyneux's output extends from landscaping using Australian plants for BP (Australia), Rrvegetation for mining companies, and vegetation planning for a South Australian express-way, to planting designs for private gardens, including some by Ellis Stones.
An Honorary Research Fellow at La Trobe University, his botanical interests include Acacia, Callistemon, and Grevillea.
Plants bearing his name include: Grevillea molyneuxii and Eucalyptus molyneuxii, in recognition of his involvement in saving its Little Desert habitat.
Author or co-author of several books, Molyneux wrote for the Age newspaper (1979-98), and later concentrated on selecting and developing new varieties of Australian plants for horticultural use, and in the design and planting of wetlands.
