Born in Sydney, NSW, on 19 October 1943.
His educational qualifications include certificates in both horticulture and landscape design. He was a landscape designer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, and later joined the staff of Bruce Mackenzie and Associates, Landscape Consultants, as a landscape designer-planner. His interests include bushwalking, wilderness conservation and the native flora; he is Honorary Conservation Secretary, NSW Federation of Bushwalking Clubs. His botanical collections have been made over a large part of eastern Australia - not only over much of N.S.W., but in south-west Tasmania, the Thornton Peak area of Qld and the Gammon Ranges of SA.
