Born in Collingwood, Vic, 1856; died in Melbourne? Vic. 21 November 1935.
Horticulturist, botanist, assistant to Mueller at Melbourne Botanic Gardens. Later Clerk in Lands Dept, then back to Gardens, becomming Assistant Curator.
Was a Victorian Field Naturalist Club founder. He had a wide knowledge of exotic plants but ferns were his special interest.
He planned the fern gully at the Gardens and listed the Victorian ferns, many of which he had grown.
He was director of the early FNCV wildflower shows.
