Sainty, Geoffrey Richard (Geoff) (1934 - 2022)
Born in 1934; died in Griffith on 22nd May, 2022, aged 88.
In 1981, the back-cover flap of 'Waterplants in Australia' by Sainty & Jacobs stated:
Geoff Sainty lives in Griffith, New South
Wales, in the heart of the Murumbidgee
Irrigation Areas, where he is employed by the
Water Resources Commission as a specialist in
waterplant management. With almost twenty
years day-to-day experience in the subject,
Geoff Sainty is intermationally recognised as an
authority on the waterplants of New South
Wales.
After 1981 he listed himself as:
- Wetland Ecologist and Private Consultant, Sainty and Associates, est. 1981, (specialising in wetland management).
- Proprietor, Sainty Books, est. 1985.
- Author, Co-author and Co-Editor of numerous technical books and field guides on the environment and ecology including:
'Estuary plants and what's happening to them in south-east Australia', 2012.
'Alps invaders - weeds of the Australian high country', 2006.
'Waterplants in Australia', 4th editions, 2003.
'WeedDeck' cards series (collated card hand guide to plants specifically designed for community and farmers).
- Botanist and Wetlands Ecology Consultant, Rootzone Australia, 1999 (wastewater treatment
and reuse).
- Honorary Research Associate, National Herbarium of New South Wales, Royal Botanic
Garden, from 1983.
In 2020 he was awarded a MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION
For service to conservation and the environment.
