Shiress, David William Campbell (c. 1862 - 1944)

Born at Bendigo, Vic., about 1862 (his age was given as 82 when he died) and died at Killara, a suburb of Sydney, N.S.W., on 24 October 1944.  

He was an accountant and appears to have been a personal friend of W. F. Blakely.  He collected extensively with him in the area within c. 100 km of Sydney, especially in the 1920s.  Only on rare occasions were collections made elsewhere, for example near Griffith, N.S.W., in 1922.  Several eucalypt tyes, and many others, were joint collections with Blakely and only two were collected with anyone else or on his own.  From the 1920s to the early 1940s the only Shiress listed in the Sydney telephone directories was ‘D.W.C.’ and this was for northern suburbs addresses.

He is honoured in the name Eucalyptus shiressi, Maiden & Blakely (1923)
