A Hamburg-based botanist who accumulated a large herbarium from a variety of sources. This herbarium (of perhaps 5000 specimens) was purchased after his death by Ferdinand Mueller for the MEL herbarium. Australian collections in this herbarium were made by F.L.Bauer, J.W.T.L.Blandowski, J.Drummond, R.C.Gunn, J.J.H. de Labillardière, R.W.Lawrence, Leibolt , J.A.L.Preiss, F.W.Sieber and G.T.Siemssen. It also contained important non-Australian collections by, among others, J.D.Hooker and T.Thomson, B.Seeman and N.S.Turczaninov.
