Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria |
Born at Cattle Chosen, Vasse (Busselton), WA., on 28 December 1842, and died, as the result of a buggy accident, at Albany on 16 August 1900.
With his brother, John, and Richard Belches in 1866 he explored land in the Lake Lefroy region (c. 80 kms south of Kalgoorlie and north of Esperance). He then leased Messrs A. & G. Moir’s sheep station on the Oldfield River, which flows into the Great Australian Bight west of Esperance, subsequently buying it in 1870. Later, in 1875, he leased a large area east of Esperance and established his home at Thomas River, where he collected the type of Eucalyptus sepulcralis.
