Born 30 August 1844 at Ball's Pond, Islington, England; emigrated to South Australia in September 1859 aboard the Alma; married to Mary Anne Long on 14 June 1882 (by the Rev. William Woolls) in Richamond, New South Wales; died 19 April 1933 in Lithgow, New South Wales.
William Harry (or Henry) Tietkens accompanied Ernest Giles on an expedition to Central Australia in 1873 and again in 1875 on a journey from Beltana, South Australia to Perth. He later joined the New South Wales Department of Lands as a surveyor in 1891.
