Born 19 March 1853, in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England; arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 21 October 1883 aboard Duke of Devonshire; died 27 September 1923, Dalby, Queensland.
Collected plants (particularly bryophytes) in Queensland between 1883 and 1909, also collected faunal specimens for the Queensland Museum. Long-time member of the Royal Society of Queensland, Acting Director of the Queensland Museum 1905–1910.
Described one hornwort species, Dendoceros subtropicus (1893). Collector of the type material of several ferns, flowering plants, and fungi. Wild is commemorated in the name of the moss genus Wildia, and in the species epithets of several other bryophytes, ferns, insects, and fish.
Plant specimens held in Australia at BRI, MEL, NSW and overseas at ABS, BBSUK, BM, E, G, H, LIV, MANCH, NY, OXF, US.
