Conical/pyriform/ovoid/ellipsoid: widest toward the base or middle (cone/pear/egg/ellipse). |
Fusiform: widest in the middle and tapered toward the apex and base (spindle-shaped). |

Globular: almost spherical. |
Obovoid: like an upside down egg - broader above the middle. |

Cylindrical: round in cross section and not tapered. |
Slender and cane-like: the stems resemble the cane-like growth of some grasses. |

Tetragonal: cross section shows the stem to have four sides. |
