7.8 STORM WATER
Background
At the Canberra site, overland flow is collected in natural
channels, some of which have been diverted or piped for short
sections to accommodate localised site development. These channels
feed into Sullivans Creek and thence into Lake Burley Griffin.
Run-off from buildings is fed into the town storm-water system. At
the Jervis Bay site, overland flow runs into Lake Mackenzie.
Management prescriptions
Objective
The objective is to collect and dispose of storm water in such a way
as to minimise pollution of downstream water or facilities.
Implementation
At the Canberra site, existing natural channels will be maintained
and planning for drainage of storm water will be incorporated in any
new developments. At the Jervis Bay site, advice about minimising
the potential for pollution of Lake Mackenzie will be sought and this
aspect of drainage will be examined in the development planning
guide.
