Carnaby was born at Subiaco (Perth), WA, on 24 July 1908; died at Boyup Brook Hospital, WA, on 10 November 1974.
His interests include farming, entomology and, especially, ornithology. He has published a number of papers on bird life in south-western Western Australia, in Emu, Western Australian Bird Notes and the Western Australian Naturalist. As a naturalist his interests extended to plants and he did several collecting trips with H. Steedman in the period 1937-39.
